Basic Excel (PDXLS1) | Designed for beginners who want to learn how to use Excel to create and manage spreadsheets, this hands-on course will teach you how to create a spreadsheet, explore the functions of Excel's various menu ribbons, how to format, sort, filter, and manipulate data, how to write basic formulas (SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX), and how to create basic charts. This course is a great way to become more familiar with value and features Excel has to offer. Whether your focus is academics, finance and administration, or you're just someone who wants to learn a new skill, this course is for you! Users who are already familiar with the basic features of Excel may wish to proceed directly to Intermediate Excel (PDXLS2). | In-person | No Pre-requisite |
Intermediate Excel (PDXLS2) | If you're already familiar with basic formulas and functions of Microsoft Excel, then Intermediate Excel is the perfect class for you. In this course, you'll learn how to create, edit, and manipulate pivot tables, as well as how to use the VLOOKUP function to work with large amounts of data. You'll also have the opportunity to explore other intermediate topics, depending on time constraints. Additional training topics will vary based on recent developments in the software and interests of the assembled group. Basic Excel (PSXLS1) is not a prerequisite for this course. Advanced Excel (PDXLS3) |
If you're already well-versed in Excel, need a refresher to stay on top of your game, or want to take your skills to the next level, then you're in the right place! In this advanced-level course, you'll learn how to use some of the most powerful features in Excel, such as logical functions, XLOOKUP approximate match and nested XLOOKUPS, the COUNTIF family of functions, statistical functions, and text extraction functions. You'll also have the opportunity to explore other advanced topics, depending on time constraints and group interests. Attending the Basic or Intermediate courses is not a prerequisite, but you'll get the most out of our time together if you already have those skills under your belt. So what are you waiting for? Oracle BI: Term Statistics (BITS1) | The first in a series targeting BI power users, this course presents BI (Business Intelligence) and the Term Statistics subject area. In a hands-on training structure, instructors guide users on building analyses and pivot tables using several targeted exercises. Users will navigate student-specific information by term, including primary program/plan, program action, academic level (freshman, etc.), and learn about the various dimensions available in the Term Statistics subject area. | In-Person | No Pre-requisite |
Oracle BI: Class Enrollment (BICE2) | The second in a series targeted Bl power users; the Class Enrollment subject area contains data relating to classes and the primary instructors and students associated with the classes. Building upon Bl reporting knowledge gained in Term Statistics, users will explore the numerous dimensions in the subject area by working through targeted exercises. Oracle BI: Class Meeting Pattern (BICMP3) | One in a series of training courses targeted to power users of the academic subject areas, this course presents the class meeting pattern subject area and instructs on the use of report prompts and driving queries. Instructors lead trainees through several practice exercises to navigate existing dashboards and build OBI analyses, work with trainees to gain access to the subject area and provide resources necessary for independent work. Power BI: Introduction (PBIX01) | The first in the training series, this course introduces Power BI. Power BI is a business analytics service by Microsoft. This software provides interactive visualizations and business intelligence capabilities with an interface where end users can create their reports and dashboards. In a hands-on training structure, instructors guide users on building a Power BI dashboard from the ground up. The session starts with basic data cleaning in Excel and concludes with an interactive dashboard featuring several visualizations. Along the way, the user will learn how to install the software, import the cleaned dataset, build the visualizations, incorporate interactive slicers (filters), and format the final dashboard. |

Power BI: Intermediate (PBIX02) | The second in the training series on Power BI, this session builds on concepts presented in the Power BI Introduction course. The course begins with users re-opening the dashboard and dataset from Day 1 to simulate sharing Power BI files. Next, participants will develop new pages in the dashboard, apply filters and slicers on the pages to limit visualizations for specific use cases and develop navigation buttons to move between pages on the dashboard. Content for Day 2 also includes how to make calculations using visualizations, how to sort axes and legends using menus, and instructions for developing a sort column. Finally, participants will understand how to publish and share their Power BI dashboards within workspaces. | In-person |

Highly Effective Teaming: Using Microsoft Teams in Your Office (HET01) | This session will provide tips, tricks, and strategies for effectively using Teams within an FSU office. Topics include detailed use of the basic Teams infrastructure and discussion of Microsoft Planner and other tools in Teams. Specifically, we will discuss how Microsoft Planner can be used for office project management. The session will also cover how to use Outlook Calendar and Scheduling Assistant along with Teams to efficiently schedule and plan office meetings. This course is designed for anyone at FSU who is looking to better understand how this software can work for them - from new employees to seasoned managers to faculty or instructors. | In-person | No Pre-requisite |
Introduction to Data at FSU (IDFSU1) | This course is intended to be an introduction to data at FSU, geared toward new employees or employees who have recently had a significant change in their job duties. It provides an overview of data, the types of data collected at the university, and the sources through which staff and/or faculty may access it. This session will also provide an overview of the tools that professionals at FSU can use to shape, transform, and visualize data to answer questions about the institution or particular departments/offices within. Sources and tools reviewed include Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI), Qualtrics, Excel, Power BI, Salesforce, and more. FACET EX Effort Certification (BTFAC6) | This class provides a general overview of the FACET Exempt Effort Certification process at Florida State University. It will cover basic knowledge of the effort certification process, interaction with the OMNI FACET system, and how to prepare and submit FACET Exempt reports for certification by employees. | In-person | No Pre-requisite |
AOR Overview for Dept Reps (AORSO) | This class provides a general overview of the Assignment of Responsibilities process at Florida State University, as well as the OMNI-based AOR system which is now required for AOR submissions. It will cover how to setup the required department user roles in the system, as well as generate and submit AORs for department faculty members. | In-person | No Pre-requisite |
