ACCESS THE DATA CATALOG
About
A data catalog is a collaborative tool that combines a data dictionary and a business catalog into a "one stop shop" for data users. The data dictionary informs the FSU community of the data we are collecting, and the business glossary gives us the rich details to make meaning and gain better value from our institutional data. The relationships between these the data dictionary and the business glossary are critical to adding value to our data.
Why do we need a data catalog?
The data catalog seeks to facilitate data discovery, while ultimately improving data quality. This tool will be critical to data transparency and data-informed decision making on campus.
DATA CATALOG ROLES
The data catalog will require a cross-functional team of individuals equipped with both functional and technical expertise in our university data. This team is responsible for crafting precise data definitions and quality standards. Within this team are roles such as data steward, and data custodian.
Data Steward: Responsible for data accuracy, security and access, development and enforcement of appropriate procedures and guidelines of definitions in the data catalog. A data steward might choose to be more directly involved in the data catalog tasks, or they may opt to entrust these responsibilities to the data custodian.
Data Custodian: Administers information resources in accordance with established policies and procedures, establishes data definitions in partnership with the data stewards
